Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry which deals with the treatment of irregularities of the teeth and abnormalities in their relation to the surrounding structures. The technical term for these problems is "malocclusion", which means "bad bite".

Why Braces?

Crossbite : Top teeth are inside of the bottom teeth.

Verticle Problem (deep bite) : The top teeth overlap the bottom teeth too much. Sometimes the lower teeth are completely hidden behind the upper teeth.

Verticle Problem (open bite) : The top teeth do not touch the bottom teeth.

Habits : Thumb or lip sucking and tongue thrust.

Space Maintenance : If a baby tooth is lost too soon, the space needs to be maintained so that there is room for the permanent tooth to erupt.

Anterior/posterior Problems (Class II) : The upper teeth are too far forward or the lower teeth are too far back.

Anterior/posterior Problems (Class III) : The upper teeth are too far back or the lower teeth are too far forward.

Missing teeth : Teeth that cannot grow into the mouth or that ever formed .

Crowding : Teeth do not have enough room to be in their normal position.
